Grant County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of 2000, the population was 31,002. Its county seat is Silver City.

As of the census of 2000, there were 31,002 people, 12,146 households, and 8,514 families residing in the county. The population density was 8 people per square mile (3/km²). There were 14,066 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 75.67% White, 0.52% Black or African American, 1.35% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 19.02% from other races, and 3.11% from two or more races. 48.79% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 12,146 households out of which 31.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.70% were married couples living together, 12.90% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.90% were non-families. 25.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.01.

In the county the population was spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 23.70% from 25 to 44, 25.10% from 45 to 64, and 16.50% who were 65 years of age or older.
